About us

How we came to be

The concept for the Creative Kids Club came about in 2014 when Peter and Rhiannon Surowski moved from Menifee to Riverside and discovered (to their surprise) there were a lot of days when they had no place to take their 11-year-old daughter while they went to work.

Sure, a lot of schools in Riverside offer after-school programs. But during the summer and on holidays when the schools are closed, if the parents have to work, there’s nowhere for the kids to go.

Where Peter and Rhiannon come from, this is not a problem. There’s a Boys & Girls Club house in Temecula, Murrieta, Lake Elsinore, Menifee and Perris. But in Riverside, the county seat and the most populous city in the Inland Empire, there’s nothing.

So Peter and Rhiannon got together with some other parents and community members and decided that no child should have to stay home alone because their parents can’t afford daycare or a babysitter. Together, they made a plan to make sure Riverside’s children have a safe place to grow and play on every day of the year.

In 2018, Creative Kids Club became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, taking it one big step closer to opening its doors to Riverside’s children!

    1. Well, to file our nonprofit application it’ll cost $425, so that’s our goal for now. I see you made a donation already, so we’re getting closer thanks to you!
